Why This Event is a Must-Experience
UKA is the largest student-run cultural festival in Norway, held every other year in Trondheim since 1917. Entirely organized by thousands of volunteers, it combines tradition with innovation and channels all profits back to Studentersamfundet, the city’s legendary student society. The program spans nearly a month, with four themed weekends (B, G, S, H), each offering a different atmosphere and lineup, ensuring variety for both locals and visitors.
The festival is best known for the UKErevy, a large-scale student revue whose name is kept secret until the opening night, but its scope goes far beyond theatre. The schedule includes headline concerts from Norwegian and international acts, comedy, exhibitions, workshops, children’s theatre, and social gatherings across town. Ticketing is flexible: some events are free or low-cost, while main concerts and the revue sell out quickly at premium prices.
Trondheim in October adds to the experience with its crisp autumn setting. Most venues are centrally located, making it easy to combine shows with walks along Nidelva, visits to historic districts like Bakklandet, or café stops on Torvet. For visitors, UKA can be turned into a full cultural getaway — a unique chance to see how student energy shapes the city’s cultural life.
